Prelim Production: Moving Image Evaluation

  1. How organised were you as a group? What elements of organisation were vital to you as a production group?
As a group, we were well organised most of the time resulting in the majority of the shots being completed. We used our class time effectively to complete many of the shots and the editing showing our persona skills. However, it is not complete and so obviously time management was a key issue in our group and could have been better for some people.
  1. What technologies did you use and how did they serve to develop your skills as a media practitioner?
Although we did not have a profession camera we decided to used an I iPhone 7 plus to film our shots. From this, we exported our videos onto one drive something which few of us had done before therefore helping us develop and further improve our skills. In addition to this, we used the iMovie editing software to edit our video, something which I personally had never used before. As a group we took some time to edit our video, however, we then went away to individually edit our videos further developing our individual media skills.
  1. How creative do you think you were during this process? What elements of the project required creativity and imagination, even though you were given a very structured brief to 'copy'?
Even though we had to copy the 'close the loop' advert, we had to be creative to ensure it looked as much like the original as possible. Due to the lack of resources and material provided we struggled to complete the shots to the best of our ability, which in turn caused us to film several shots outside of school. As explained above, some of the shots were uncompleted which were some of the most 'difficult' shots which is why we had to replace them with the original shots in the final cut video so our creativity was not fully tested.
  1. How successful do you think your first draft video is? Use examples from the film to illustrate your evaluations.
In the original shot the camera man uses a tripod to create a steady and well organised image where the three by three rule can be applied, with the subject filling at least two of the possible nine squares. We could not recreate this perfectly due to lack of equipment that we had on hand. In this shot we tried to frame it exactly thereby following the three by three rule of cinematography, which sense creates a professional, aesthetic look. When it came to the wise en scene, we actually recreated the original mine en scene quite well with the background following a square on the window of the frames and the poster. Overall, I think that our first draft video was quite successful our only fall back was the complete content.
  1. In preparation for the next stage of your production work, what knowledge of experience will you take with you into the next project?
In preparation for my next stage of my project, I will take the skills that I have learnt about editing to ensure that can continue to progress. Furthermore, I will rely on myself more than other group members to ensure work is completed on time and to the deadlines. This is because time management was a key issue in our group.
