Production of the 2016 Jungle Book

What was Favreau's approach to the remake? It was partly based on Disney's original version but also drew more on kipling's original books, giving a darker tone. The original was a U rating, however, the 2016 version became a PG rating.       How did digital technology impact on the production process? All animals and landscapes etc were created on computers, mostly by the British digital effects house MPC.  The animal characters were deliberately created with a realistic look, and not in a cute and cuddly cartoon style as with the original animated Jungle Book film. Discuss how CGI works. focus on blue screen and how the animals were constructed?  JB16 is the result of cutting edge CGI- the animals were created digitally post- production and the one actor in the film acted against a blue screen. Using the footage, the effects team built then built the films set visually, a process known as pre-visualisation. Everything was mapped against a virtual set. ...

Distribution

1. What is film distribution? The process of making a movie available for viewing by an audience. For commercial projects, film distribution is usually accompanied by film promotion. When a film is initially produced, a feature film is often shown to audiences in a movie theatre. 2. Who distributed the film, The jungle book? What does this say about the size of Disney as a company? A s a company Disney was already vertically integrated at the time the Jungle Book was originally released. Disney produced films at its own studios and distributed them via its own wholly owned Buena Vista distribution company. It was distributed in the US by the by the Buena Vista distribution company and internationally by Buena Vista international, which were owned by Walt Disney Studios. This suggests that the size of Walt Disney studios is on a larger scale in comparisons to other  production companies because its is able to use its vertically integrated companies in oder to distribute its prod...

Crafting Participatory Culture

1. What is Jerkins's theory that the author is referring to here? How might it apply to how audiences interact with Minecraft game? Jenkins's theory defines this culture as 'one in which fans and other consumers are invited to actively participate in the creation and circulation of new content'. A user who is both a 'producer' and 'consumer' can be referred to as a 'prosumer', this term and the idea around it was used by Toffler to describe the increasing do-it-yourself labour trending at the time. Jenkins's also put forwrd this idea that fans have differnt levels of participation, from conumer to fan, cultist, enthusiast and petty producer. 2. How is minecraft diferent to conventional games in terms of narrative and what kind of experience this game offers? In a conventional action/adventure computer game consumers are restricted to narrative that you get to follow but that is it, players can not really ever die, they are simply just p...

How is minecraft marketed differently to traditional methods? Marketing activities continue to evolve from traditional strategies to non-traditional methods that involve the internet. Production and Technology of the Jungle Book

A summary of the production process The jungle book was released in 1967 by Walt Disney Productions. Before production of JB started, Disney had streamlined the whole production system so that he had one supervising director, one art director, four ,step animators and one story man.  Walt Disney thought that the first version of the script for the jungle book was too dark for family audiences, that the audience won't be able to identify with the boy, Mowgli, and that the villain, the tiger Shere Khan, would be a cliche; so Disney himself took control and changed the production team. Walt wanted a film that was: Light Fun Entertaining  And included 'happy songs'.  Walt didn't want to go anywhere near darkness according to the animator Floyd Norman. Backgrounds were hand-painted- with the exception of the waterfall, mostly consisting of footage the Angel Falls in Venezuela- and sometimes scenery was used in both foreground and bottom and filmed in multiplane c...

A Level Media Coursework: Original Photography

This image above shows the artist looking directly towards the camera, engaging the audiences attention immediately. This shot is intimate but its tone is much less serious than other images below and the deliberate positioning of the lighting has allowed two shadows to be created behind the artist, like she isn't alone.  This image uses much softer lighting than other images, creating fewer shadows with less contrast. Unlike the other images the artist is the main focus as there are no other elements allowing the attention tone drawn away from the artist that an individual can see. The mannerism in this particular shot creates a very serious tone also.    In this particular shot, the artist is caught in a 'natural position' with no direct eye contact with the audience/viewer. From a viewers perspective this creates a sense of mystery and allows the viewers to see the realism of the artist. Because we are unaware of what the artist is focusing on in ...

A Level Media Coursework: Statement of Intent

In the dance music video I intend to produce, my aim is to create two different media products, a music website and a music video for a dance music artist. This will be targeted at my intended audience, ages 16-25. Throughout my dance music video I will be applying the four elements of the media framework, which includes media audiences, industries, language and representations. Using prior research, I evaluated and textually analysed several different dance music videos in order to properly understand the codes, conventions and common themes of dance music and how I can specifically use these to target my intended audience. Firstly, the music video I will create will be to the song 'Thinking About you' by Calvin Harris ft. Ayah Marar and will be three minutes long. The video will be non-narrative instead of displaying a linear storyline to avoid the recession of the song into the background of the viewer's perception. Within this dance music video I will be conforming to...

A Level Media Coursework: Textual Analysis of Dance Music Videos

Image
The videos Lullaby (Sigala & Paloma Faith), One Kiss (Calvin Harris & Dua Lipa) and Came Here for Love (Sigala & Ella Eyre) have a similar theme of ideology and ethnic imagery represented in their videos. They all carry similar features and music video conventions when concerning mise-en-scene, camera shots and editing. For example, in the three videos above, it shows a very clear representation of the age group which are typically into dance music, this can be identified through the use of age specific actors seen throughout the videos, all seeming to be in their early twenties. Those shown in the video are generally female, this has been purposely done in order to attract viewers attention (Male Gaze) not because the audience is mainly this gender. From this we can understand that the videos have attempted  to target both gender...
